Role Overview
As Curatorial Coordinator, you will support the Indigenous & Canadian Art Department in exhibitions, acquisitions, and collection management. Reporting to the Fredrik S. Eaton Curator, Canadian Art, you’ll collaborate with artists, lenders, donors, and internal teams to advance the AGO’s curatorial vision.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibitions & Loans:
- Coordinate logistics for exhibitions, including loan agreements, shipping, and artist relations.
- Prepare labels, checklists, and installation photography.
- Organize events (openings, talks, donor dinners).
Acquisitions & Collections:
- Manage Canadian Cultural Property Review Board (CCPERB) applications.
- Liaise with donors, appraisers, and dealers for acquisitions/deaccessions.
- Update the TMS database and maintain accession files.
Donor & Committee Relations:
- Act as primary contact for Curatorial Committee members (including AGO Board).
- Coordinate VIP passes for art fairs and donor communications.
Department Administration:
- Track budgets, process invoices, and onboard interns/fellows.
- Schedule meetings and manage curators’ travel.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years in arts administration, with Indigenous & Canadian art expertise.
- Proficiency in TMS and NetX (digital asset management).
- Post-secondary degree in arts/culture or equivalent experience.
- Detail-oriented with strong editing, proofreading, and project coordination skills.
- Experience working with living artists, estates, and Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of additional languages (e.g., Indigenous languages, French) is an asset.
