The National Gallery of Ireland is recruiting a Curatorial Fellow to support the Curatorial Department in the planning and delivery of a major rehang of the permanent collection scheduled for early 2027. The fellowship offers hands-on curatorial experience in collection display, research, exhibition development, and public engagement within a national museum context.

The Curatorial Fellow will work within the Curatorial Department under the Head Curator, supporting the preparation and delivery of the permanent collection rehang while contributing to wider departmental activities.

Main responsibilities:

  • Supporting the planning and implementation of the permanent collection rehang
  • Conducting research on artworks for display and interpretation purposes
  • Assisting in writing labels, wall texts, and interpretive materials
  • Supporting provenance research and updating catalogue records
  • Assisting with exhibition development and curatorial projects
  • Maintaining and updating curatorial documentation and files
  • Participating in public programmes when required

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Art History or a related discipline
  • Experience in a museum or gallery environment
  • Strong interest in the National Gallery of Ireland’s collection
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good IT and digital skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Proactive and motivated approach

Conditions of Employment

This is a one-year fixed-term fellowship. Applicants must be eligible to work in Ireland under EEA/UK/Swiss citizenship rules or valid residence permission.
