Job Description
- Title: Curatorial Fellow, Art of the Islamic Worlds
- Reports To: Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
- Work Location: Museum Of Fine Arts, Houston – Beck Building
- Duration: 1-year appointment with a renewable option for one additional year
Responsibilities
- Assists and conducts research for the Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
- Supports catalog publications and exhibitions: research, documentation, checklist creation, and coordination with various departments
- Undertakes additional duties to assist the curator in projects, correspondence, and general office tasks
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge in Islamic art, particularly Persian visual culture
- Team-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines
- Advanced research and writing skills
- Strong organizational and computer skills with a keen attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills for departmental coordination and public interaction
- Preferred foreign language skills: Persian or Arabic
Education and Experience
- Minimum: BA in Art History
- Preferred: MA or PhD in Art History with a focus on Islamic Art
- Museum experience and a career interest in museum work are advantageous

Position Availability
- Title: Curatorial Fellow
- Reports to: Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
- Classification: Fellowship – Exempt
- Schedule: 35-hour work week
- Pay Rate: Competitive (See “Compensation” below)
- Work Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work involves office, conference room, and gallery settings
- May require light physical labor during design and installation processes
- Must meet company standards for background checks
- Ability to multitask effectively

Compensation
- Salary is based on experience and job requirements ($45,000/annual)
- Pay range is a guideline and not a guaranteed compensation amount
