Job Description

Title: Curatorial Fellow, Art of the Islamic Worlds
Reports To: Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
Work Location: Museum Of Fine Arts, Houston – Beck Building
Duration: 1-year appointment with a renewable option for one additional year

Responsibilities

Assists and conducts research for the Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
Supports catalog publications and exhibitions: research, documentation, checklist creation, and coordination with various departments
Undertakes additional duties to assist the curator in projects, correspondence, and general office tasks

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Knowledge in Islamic art, particularly Persian visual culture
Team-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines
Advanced research and writing skills
Strong organizational and computer skills with a keen attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills for departmental coordination and public interaction
Preferred foreign language skills: Persian or Arabic

Education and Experience

Minimum: BA in Art History
Preferred: MA or PhD in Art History with a focus on Islamic Art
Museum experience and a career interest in museum work are advantageous

Position Availability

Title: Curatorial Fellow
Reports to: Curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds
Classification: Fellowship – Exempt
Schedule: 35-hour work week
Pay Rate: Competitive (See “Compensation” below)
Work Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work involves office, conference room, and gallery settings
May require light physical labor during design and installation processes
Must meet company standards for background checks
Ability to multitask effectively

Compensation

Salary is based on experience and job requirements ($45,000/annual)
Pay range is a guideline and not a guaranteed compensation amount
