The Harvard Art Museums invite applications for the Rousseau Curatorial Fellow in European Art, a two-year programme designed to support emerging museum professionals in art history, conservation, and museum education. Fellows collaborate with staff, contribute to curatorial projects, and participate in workshops, cohort activities, and the annual Fellows Symposium.
Fellowship Format

Term: 08 September 2026 – 31 August 2028

Full-time (35 hours/week)

Annual compensation: $60,000 + travel budget + Harvard fringe benefits

Includes orientation and 3-month review period
Responsibilities

Research and support projects on 14th–19th century European paintings and sculptures, including works by Monet and Cézanne

Assist with provenance research, acquisitions, loans, and gallery reinstallation planning

Prepare interpretive materials, labels, and publications

Contribute to public and academic programming, teaching, and interdisciplinary initiatives

Supervise students and temporary staff
Eligibility Criteria

MA in Art History or related field required; PhD preferred

Specialization in European or British paintings desirable

Museum or related experience preferred

Additional languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch) desirable

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
