Position Focus:

The Marcia Brady Tucker Curatorial Fellowship is a two-year, full-time appointment with benefits that is designed for an emerging scholar of American art who is considering the curatorial profession. The Curatorial Fellow will be fully integrated into the Department of American Paintings and Sculpture and will work under the direction of both the curator and associate curator. Applicants must include a cover letter that addresses the candidate’s interest in the fellowship, relevant experience, and includes the names of three references. 

Essential Duties:

1. Assist in the daily functions of the department, including collection and exhibition research;1.Participate in development of a major exhibition of the American Renaissance focused on depictions of the human figure in drawing, painting, and sculpture;
2. Research new acquisitions and works not previously catalogued; write wall texts and labels;
3. Contribute to and assist in the maintenance of the collection database and object files;
4. Work with faculty and students in the field of American art and culture from the Departments of the History of Art, American Studies, Comparative Literature, History, and beyond;
5. Give gallery talks and other presentations;
6. Interact with the public, visiting scholars, and students to exchange information on the collection; answer scholarly inquiries and general correspondence.

Essential Duties

1. Conducts research on new acquisitions and catalogues them in appropriate databases. Builds comprehensive curatorial files on both new and prior acquisitions. 2. Participates in public programming and collections maintenance, and in planning for reinstallation of permanent collections. 3. Assist with exhibitions, publications, and programs organized by the department, up to and including research, liaising with internal and external colleagues, gathering images, writing letters and label copy, and overseeing study rooms. 4. Supports museum’s educational programs by giving talks and special presentations or classes. May assist the Education Department with activities related to the teaching gallery. 5. Ensures the special care, security, and proper user handling of all collections, prints, drawings, and photographs, etc. 6. Works with the department to prepare related sections of University publications. 7. Interacts with the public, visiting scholars, and students to exchange information on collections; answers scholarly inquiries and general correspondence. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

M.A. in Art History or related field.
