Program Details The Curatorial Intensive in Indonesia, presented by ICI and in-tangible institute, is scheduled from February 26 to March 6, 2024. This collaborative program takes place in partnership with the Indonesian Visual Art Archive in Yogyakarta and the Bali Purnati Center for the Arts in Bali.
Program Overview The Curatorial Intensive Indonesia draws inspiration from the rich history of independent art spaces and curatorial initiatives in the region. Its primary goal is to cultivate fresh perspectives on building a sustainable, socially responsible, and community-centered contemporary art ecosystem. Participants will explore the role of artistic research in guiding curatorial endeavors within communities/sites, the potential of collaborative practices and intergenerational networks in fostering resilient and inclusive arts infrastructures, and the significance of curatorial research in addressing complex historical and sociopolitical realities.
Program Highlights Over nine days, participants, consisting of emerging curators with 3-5 years of experience in the field, will immerse themselves in the vibrant cultural landscapes of Yogyakarta and Bali. The program features group discussions on the nature of art ecosystems, seminars, site visits, and one-on-one meetings to facilitate the development of curatorial project proposals.
Eligibility This program caters to self-motivated individuals in the early stages of their careers, whether working independently or within institutions. It provides a unique opportunity to establish valuable peer networks and explore potential collaborative ventures. Notably, this is the sixth Curatorial Intensive in Asia since 2010, following successful editions in Mumbai, Tokyo, Manila, and Bangkok.
Key Facilitators Seminars, site visits, and roundtable discussions will be led by accomplished professionals, including Riksa Afiaty, Zoe Butt, Renaud Proch, Grace Samboh, and Lê Thuận Uyên.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
- Eligibility: 12–14 international applicants with 3+ years of curatorial or related cultural project experience.
- Language: Proficiency in English is essential, as the program will be conducted in English.
- Application Deadline: November 5, 2023, at 11:59pm EST.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Program Fee: $1,900 USD Participants are responsible for their travel, accommodation, and visa expenses.
Generous scholarship packages are available based on merit and need, covering program fees, travel, and accommodation costs. If interested, please include a scholarship request with your application. Scholarships are only awarded to applicants who express interest during the application process.
Additionally, ICI offers a limited number of scholarship packages specifically for Indonesian curators. If applicable, indicate your interest in a scholarship in your application.
