(Three-month paid internship beginning June 2019)
Under the direction of the Assistant Curator, curatorial interns will work closely with MCD staff in curatorial research, production of interpretive gallery materials and exhibition evaluation at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco. Additionally, curatorial interns will assist with the development, implementation, and promotion of research and training materials for the museum’s staff and docent teams. Specific project-based work will include:
In-Gallery Interpretive Materials
The intern will gather research for upcoming exhibitions for the purpose of in-gallery and online interpretive materials for the exhibitions Survival Architectureand Linda Gass: and then this happened…. Projects may involve original research, interviews with artists, curators, as well as traditional research methods and work with the museum’s design team.
Docent Training Guide
In partnership with the museum’s curatorial and education departments, the intern will gather research and assist in the creation of docent guides and training materials for MCD staff and volunteers in support of upcoming exhibitions. The intern will assist in staff and docent trainings as well as have opportunities to lead gallery talks and tours of current exhibitions for the public.
Curatorial internships will begin June 3, 2019 and end August 30, 2019. Applicants must be willing to contribute 20-22 hours per week at the Museum of Craft and Design and will receive a stipend of $5000 (approximately $15 per hour).
Qualified Candidates:
Applicants who are enrolled in an accredited program at the graduate level or who have graduated in the past six months with a focus in studio craft, art/craft history, museum studies, or art education are eligible to apply. All applicants must be U.S. citizens.
