[Summer 2025] Curatorial – 2026 Biennial Internship – Whitney Museum of American Art

Location: New York City, NY
Position Type: Internship (Full-Time)
Program Duration: Nine weeks (June 2 – August 1, 2025)
Compensation: $6,500 stipend for full participation
Deadline: March 7, 2025, 5pm ET

The Whitney Museum of American Art offers a Summer 2025 Curatorial Internship for undergraduate students, primarily focused on supporting the planning and preparation of the 2026 Biennial exhibition. The internship will provide hands-on experience in curatorial work, including exhibition checklist maintenance, budget tracking, and research on contemporary art. Interns will also engage in administrative tasks and receive professional development training throughout the program.

This hybrid program requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, with at least three days per week onsite at the museum. The program will run for nine consecutive weeks, from June 2 to August 1, 2025.


Expected Projects & Assignments:

  • Maintain exhibition checklist and files.
  • Track exhibition budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of exhibition catalogues and review interpretive materials.
  • Conduct research on contemporary art.
  • Support administrative tasks within the curatorial team.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in contemporary art history.
  • Previous research experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Undergraduates currently enrolled in accredited academic programs (must have completed at least one year of coursework; freshmen are not eligible).
  • All majors are encouraged to apply, though a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous museum experience is not required.
