Curatorial Internship (Paid) | USA

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco seeks one advanced undergraduate or graduate student in Art History to intern in the European Paintings Department.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM

The intern in the European Paintings Department will work closely with the curatorial staff. The intern will assist the paintings curators with daily administrative tasks and exhibition planning research.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern will work closely with curatorial staff on the research and planning for major upcoming exhibitions. Typical duties may include in-depth library research, exhibition catalogue/label research, and editing. The intern may work closely with the staff in other museum departments including, but not limited to, Exhibitions, Graphic Design, Education, and Publications. The internship may also include general office needs within the European Paintings Department and attending and assisting with special programs.

SPECIFICS OF THE PROGRAM

Interns are required to commit a minimum of a summer-long internship (about 3-4 months). Previous experience in a curatorial department preferred. Expected BA or MA in Art History required.

HOURS

Interns are required to work a minimum of 3-4 days per week from June through August/September, 2018.

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.00

This internship is an opportunity to work in a position of responsibility in the European Paintings Department of the Fine Arts Museums and contribute to the growth of innovative curatorial programs. This internship is geared toward interns with career or graduate school goals within art history, as the experience gained will be within a curatorial department.
