Newcastle Art Gallery is seeking a Curatorial Officer (Exhibitions) to join its Curatorial and Exhibitions Team at a pivotal moment of growth and renewal. This permanent, full-time role supports the development and delivery of the Gallery’s ambitious artistic program, including temporary exhibitions, offsite projects, new commissions, and collection-based displays.
Working under the direction of the Exhibitions Lead, the successful candidate will play a key coordination role in delivering high-quality exhibitions across local, national, and international contexts, ensuring industry best practice in exhibition development and delivery.

Salary: $85,470.45 per annum

Key Responsibilities

Support delivery of temporary exhibitions, offsite projects, and commissions

Assist artists and curators in realising exhibition projects

Provide program administration and ensure best practice in exhibition delivery

Coordinate exhibitions involving loans, new commissions, and the permanent collection

Contribute to interpretive materials through writing, public talks, and digital content

Collaborate across Curatorial and Audience teams
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:

Curatorial and/or exhibitions experience within a gallery or museum context

Strong organisational and coordination skills

Experience working with artists and external stakeholders

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to contribute to interpretive and public-facing content

Commitment to inclusive and community-focused practice
