Curatorial Project Officer, International Exhibition Projects

VPS 3.1: $63,629 gross per annum + 9.5% superannuation
Full Time, Fixed Term for 3 years

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Curatorial Project Officer, International Exhibition Projects who will be responsible for providing administrative and curatorial support to the Senior Curator.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
You will provide high quality administrative support including travel planning, insurance/indemnity for international exhibitions and preparing correspondence. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Performing research on works of art to prepare checklists, summaries, reports and presentations, and to produce content for use by Media and Public Affairs and Corporate Partnerships, in consultation with the Senior Curator.
  • Assisting the Senior Curator with the preparation of exhibition texts, such as labels and didactics, and catalogues for exhibitions.
  • Providing assistance to the Senior Curator and Exhibitions Management in relation to the requirements for international loan exhibitions under the Protection of Cultural Objects on Loan legislation.
  • Ensuring regular monitoring of leading international museums to create a register of global exhibitions, specifically blockbuster and other temporary exhibitions.

To be successful you will have a tertiary qualification in Art History or equivalent coupled with knowledge and experience in exhibition management and sound knowledge of International Art, particularly European and North American Art of the 19th and 20th centuries. You can identify processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, identifying more and less critical activities and operating accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required. You can develop and implement systems and procedures to guide work and track progress and recognise barriers and find effective ways to deal with them.

You have the ability to adapt the content, style, message or tone of a presentation to suit the audience needs, you prepare briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language and ensure written communications contain the necessary information to achieve their purpose. You can confidently convey information in a clear and interesting way. You observe fine details, ensure accuracy and identify gaps in information, looking for logical sequences of information and highlight practical considerations of plans and activities.
