Role Overview
The Curatorial Projects Manager is a vital part of the exhibition management team. This role oversees the day-to-day organization and implementation of approximately seven to ten exhibitions over one to two years. Responsibilities include coordinating the entire exhibition lifecycle from research and concept development to installation and project close.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate collaboration between the Curatorial Department, internal stakeholders, and external designers, consultants, and vendors.
- Manage exhibition projects by creating and monitoring schedules, assigning tasks, enforcing deadlines, and coordinating communication.
- Develop and maintain project budgets with the Associate Director of Curatorial Projects, including quarterly forecasting.
- Lead postmortem reflections and leverage project management processes and best practices to improve workflows.
- Coordinate the development of exhibition designs with the project team, ensuring accuracy through reviews and effective communication of changes.
- Support the Director of Exhibition Installation and maintain production, fabrication, and installation trackers to ensure deliverables meet specifications.
- Oversee the development, production, and editing of exhibition text, graphics, reproductions, and audiovisual content.
- Manage collaboration to develop visitor engagement opportunities with exhibition content from conception to maintenance.
- Oversee exhibition installation and manage related administrative tasks.
- Initiate and conduct meetings, supervise interns, and facilitate content sharing.
Requirements
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree accepted.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in exhibition or design production.
- Demonstrated project management and process implementation experience.
- Proven ability to develop and manage budgets with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Stationary for 75% of the time.
- Ability to navigate office and museum environments.
- Proficiency in operating office equipment.
- Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Significant wrist, hand, and finger movements.
- Strong visual acuity.
- Occasional outdoor work and travel within the five boroughs.
