Curatorial Research Assistant

The Philadelphia Museum of Art seeks a Curatorial Research Assistant in Chinese art for 8 months beginning immediately until February 2019. The position will assist the Associate Curator of Chinese Art in all aspects of work related to the reinstallation of the permanent Chinese galleries which will open in early February 2019. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in activities of the East Asian department, which is responsible for a collection of some 7,000 Chinese objects ranging in date from the Neolithic to the present and in various media, including ceramics, porcelains, paintings, sculpture, furniture, textiles and prints.

Specifically, you will…

Support the Associate Curator of Chinese Art in all aspects related to the reinstallation of the Chinese galleries:
- Conduct object research
- Assist with cataloguing and collection documentation
- Work with Interpretation, Design, Programming and Marketing
- Other miscellaneous administrative tasks as needed

Your diverse background includes…

A Master’s degree in Chinese/East Asian Art or a related field is required.
Fluency in written and spoken Chinese is preferred.
Demonstrated interest in and a commitment to the interpretation and display of works of art, engagement of the public through educational programming and art-historical scholarship of a wide range of different media.
