The Rencontres d’Arles offers a €20,000 Curatorial Research Fellowship, welcoming exhibition curators from all backgrounds.

Purpose
The Curatorial Research Fellowship, supported by Jean-François Dubos, seeks curators interested in creating an original image/photography project.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online here before December 8, 2023.
The application should include:
- A curator’s biography (and co-curators or collectives, if applicable), with background, full contact information, and a list of curatorial projects & exhibitions.
- A text outlining the proposed exhibition project (maximum 5,000 characters), detailing the works and artists involved, a provisional research budget (€5,000), a research schedule, and a provisional exhibition production budget (€15,000).
Texts can be in either French or English, preferably both.
Research & Production Stages
Stage 1: Research
Upon project selection, the curator will receive a €5,000 grant for expenses and copyright fees during the research period. Budget and schedule will be subject to approval by Rencontres d’Arles. The curator will have six months for research, concluding with a project feasibility assessment and presentation (Stage 2).
Stage 2: Producing & Organizing the Exhibition
Subject to approval, the project enters the production stage funded by Rencontres d’Arles. The €15,000 budget includes:
- Loans of works
- Shipping works to Arles (round-trip)
- Production of the works: printing, framing, wallpaper, videos, etc.
- An invitation to the curator, and possible artists’ expenses in Arles during the opening week.
- Insurance, and more.
Curators will be responsible for:
- Selecting exhibition works and determining presentation and reproduction rights.
- Writing a text presenting the selection of photographs.
- Being present at the festival’s opening week and participating in the guided tour of the exhibition.
Additionally, Rencontres d’Arles will cover expenses related to scenography and work setup and dismantling.

- Until Summer 2024: Research (Stage 1)
- From September 2024: In the case of approval, production of the project (Stage 2)
