Prospect Art is seeking a curatorial research fellow to support the BROADCAST arm of the programming, emphasizing media-based artists throughout the year. The candidate will design a cohesive program of at least four BROADCAST segments, which include public online events such as screenings, Q&A sessions with artists, and workshops, organized around an environmental theme. Research takes place from June to August 2024. At the end of this period, the fellow presents their program and budget to Prospect Art to seek funding for 2025 events and curator support.
Benefits
The selected curator will receive a $500 research honorarium and may receive additional funds to conduct the program in 2025. This role offers direct contact with a vast scope of artists and involvement in the NEW WORK review committee, selecting half the artists for the program from the open call. The fellowship is ideal for candidates interested in environmental issues, climate change, and the human impact on the arts.
Organization Background
Prospect Art was founded during the 2020 pandemic, aiming to promote representation and equality by creating new opportunities for local, national, and international artists. The organization operates as an agile, responsive entity to support artists in the Los Angeles community and beyond, breaking down silos and sharing information to advance artists’ careers and forge new community alliances.
Eligibility and Criteria
The fellowship is open to artist-curators, academics, art historians, curators, graduate students, Ph.D. candidates, and post-doctoral researchers from any location. Undergraduate students are not eligible. Candidates should be able to address contemporary issues with a background in art and cultural histories and an interest in media-based works.
Application Requirements
Applicants should submit a short CV (1-2 pages), a one-paragraph biography, and a paragraph about an artist previously supported by Prospect Art that interests them. Links to online publications, curatorial statements, or curatorial projects should also be included.
Application Process and Deadlines
Applications are due by April 28, 2024, at 11:59 PM Standard Pacific Time. Submit applications through the Google form available on the Prospect Art website. For inquiries, contact submissions@prospectart.org.
