The Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe invites applications for a two-year Curatorial Traineeship in its Department of Collection and Research. As part of a dynamic team in one of Germany’s major art museums, the trainee will gain comprehensive, structured insight into curatorial practices, exhibition development, art education, museum communication, and administration. The program includes mentorship, internal and external training opportunities, and encourages the acquisition of additional qualifications.
Trainees will participate in ongoing and upcoming exhibitions, including concept development, artwork selection, loan processing, catalog editing, and mediation strategies. They will also contribute to research, publications, educational programs (tours, lectures, digital formats), and internal museum operations.
Candidate Profile
- Master’s degree in Art History (PhD preferred)
- Excellent written and spoken German; good English required, French desirable
- Solid knowledge of early modern and modern European art history; interest in contemporary art
- Digital literacy and an interest in digital art history
- Strong organizational skills, structured and goal-oriented work ethic
- High level of responsibility, creativity, engagement, and teamwork
