The Museum of Art and History of Geneva (MAH) is one of Europe’s foremost encyclopædic cultural institutions. Its collection encompasses a span of fifteen thousand years and includes over half a million objects in fields ranging from archæology, painting, sculpture, works on paper, coins, furniture, and articles of daily life, as well as timepieces and jewellery.

The museum has engaged in a comprehensive program of strategic review and transformation. This project has led to the revitalisation of its vision, mission, and values. The MAH’s long-term goal is to become a dynamic beacon of culture for Geneva and its region, as well as an internationally recognised laboratory for envisioning and advancing the role of the museum in the twenty-first century. To achieve this objective, the MAH is exploring how best to realise its full potential to connect people, fostering an array of creative expressions through exhibition spaces and media over time. It continues to actively pursue the expansion and renovation project that is currently underway.

As part of this evolving mission, the MAH is looking for an :

DEPUTY DIRECTOR (full time)

Your mission, primary duties and responsibilities:

You are the director of management, administration, and technical matters at the MAH, as delegated by the museum’s director. As such, you define the priorities of relevant internal policies, by working closely with the heads of the departments for which you are responsible, and you guarantee the development and proper functioning of museum activity and infrastructure. Specifically, your mission is to coordinate and supervise the different organisational departments of the MAH and implement projects and activities related to the institution’s strategy. Moreover, you are second in command to the director when it comes to navigating the museum’s cultural and scientific engagements. Under your leadership, you provide optimal management of your staff. 

Your background:

You have a Master’s degree in economics, management or social science and you also have experience in the management of cultural institutions or training in an equivalent field. You have a solid background in positions with high levels of responsibility, preferably in a museum context. You draw from an expansive professional network, including international circles, and you are confident managing largescale projects, software tools, and the French language, both written and spoken. Moreover, you have a solid command of English and German. As a dynamic and pragmatic manager able to handle large workloads, you have overall vision and are able to synthesise. You are particularly at ease in a multidisciplinary environment. You are able to motivate, be in charge of and delegate responsibility to staff by setting unifying objectives and priorities, all while continually developing and maintaining a positive and productive work environment. Generally speaking, your personal and social competences are widely recognized and have allowed you to collaborate and interact in an exemplary manner with diverse teams and partners, including under stress.  

You reside within the Canton of Geneva or within the authorised residential area.
