Compensation Package: Full health benefits, four weeks of paid time off, federal holidays, and the week between Christmas and New Year’s off. The role requires forty hours per week, includes attendance at external events, and occasional evening work for fundraising events. Hybrid work model.

Job Description

Role Overview

The Development Director leads fundraising strategy, enhancing the revenue model and creating new approaches rooted in the magazine’s mission. This role ensures alignment and successful execution of all development efforts.

Ideal Candidate

A highly organized individual with strong leadership skills and a vested interest in developing creative donor engagement strategies. The role requires collaboration, reflecting the magazine’s work, ambitions, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the annual fundraising strategy for a $1 million operating budget.
  • Engage institutional partners, individual donors, and prospective supporters.
  • Maintain relationships with the Board of Directors and the Development Committee.
  • Oversee individual giving campaigns and events, including the annual benefit.
  • Manage patron groups, finding new ways to engage them with the magazine’s program.
  • Liaise between the bookkeeper and staff, verify income and expenses, and contribute to the annual audit.
  • Represent Triple Canopy at public events.
  • Supervise two full-time staff: the Manager of Institutional Giving & Public Engagement and the Development & Programs Assistant.
  • Oversee donation processing and database entry.
  • Direct the production and sale of fundraising art editions.

Qualifications

  • Four to six years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit or relevant commercial context.
  • Significant experience managing and motivating a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Engagement with contemporary culture, especially art and literature.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Strong ethics, discretion, and judgment.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and donor databases. Familiarity with Mailchimp and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
