The Opportunity
The National Museum of Australia offers an exciting role within the Collection Engagement Business Unit. The chosen professional will manage digital preservation systems, processes, and standards for digital cultural collections and assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Museum’s Trusted Digital Repository, ensuring its reliable operation and resolving technical issues.
- Collaborate with vendors and the IT team to enhance system and business processes.
- Oversee the Digital Preservation Technician, planning and executing preservation activities and system upgrades.
- Ensure data integrity across collection systems and provide support for system management.
- Foster relationships within the sector to improve digital preservation standards and processes.
- Contribute to policy development, reporting, and higher-level tasks as needed.
Requirements for Success
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing digital cultural objects within a digital repository. Essential skills include high technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and experience in digital preservation resources and tools. Effective communication and stakeholder engagement are crucial for this role.
Selection Criteria
- Proven experience in digital preservation practices and systems, preferably within a cultural institution.
- Ability to work collaboratively, investigate business processes, and deliver software solutions on time.
- Knowledge of international standards for digital collecting and management of born-digital material.
- Familiarity with digital preservation and archiving practices, metadata schema, and file formats.
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Written and presentation skills to represent the Museum externally.
- Awareness of legal and workplace health and safety responsibilities.
