Fondazione Torino Musei is opening a non-binding selection procedure for the appointment of the Director of the GAM – Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Turin.
This notice is addressed to all qualified persons in possession of the requisites required by the Fondazione Torino Musei.
Applications must be sent:
- no later than 12:00 CET on Tuesday 12 September 2023
- either via PEC: avvisoGAM@pec.it, indicating in the subject: “Candidatura Direttore GAM” / “GAM Director Application”;
- or by postal delivery or express courier with return receipt (POD, proof of delivery) to the address:
- “Fondazione Torino Musei – Piazza Savoia n. 6 – 10122 Torino, Italy”
- in a sealed envelope, to be received within the same terms.
Role of the Director
The Director is responsible for the overall administration of the museum complex, the preservation and management of the Museum’s assets, the sound administration of the Museum’s services, and compliance with its regulations. The Director must define the museum’s development direction by coordinating its programming and activities and taking into account the characteristics that represent the Museum’s history and collections, in conjunction with the Foundation.
Tasks of the Director
In particular, the Director performs the following tasks:
- Defines, develops, implements, and monitors the outcomes of cultural and scientific projects, as well as the temporary indoor exhibitions and the international touring exhibitions program.
- Curates the permanent exhibitions and enhances the museum itinerary.
- Supervises the preservation, organization, display, and analysis of the collections, coordinating the work of those involved in such functions.
- Manages the museum’s educational and higher education activities and the development of the Museum’s accessibility and inclusion.
- Organizes, regulates, and controls services offered to the public, including museum facilities such as the bookshop and café.
- Assists with information, promotion, and communication to the general public activities.
- Ensures the maintenance and updating of inventories and catalogs.
- Oversees the scientific management of all museum and exhibition activities and the definition of research and study plans.
- Enhances fundraising activities.
- Provides advice on the loan and deposit of works and supervises the relevant procedures, also in agreement with the owners of the works.
- Strengthens the Museum’s connection with the local community and the City of Turin.
- Liaises with other local, national, and international institutions to build and implement shared development projects with the aim of positioning the Museum in museum networks of national and international significance.
Objectives and Functions
The Director’s objectives and functions include:
- Ensuring the day-to-day running of the Museum and the organization of the work carried out by the staff.
- Ensuring control and compliance with the Museum’s processes, administrative activities, and budget, in cooperation with the Foundation’s General Services Departments.
- Increasing cooperation and the sharing of common strategic guidelines with the other Museums managed by the Foundation and with Artissima – Fiera internazionale d’arte contemporanea [The International Contemporary Art Fair], organized by Artissima Srl, a company wholly owned by Fondazione Torino Musei.
Director’s Responsibilities in Renovation
In view of the peculiarities of the building and the forthcoming renovation outlined above, the Director will have to:
- Provide the ongoing project activities with a vision for the re-launch of the museum through the definition of an international and innovative structural and cultural concept.
- Ensure support for and cooperate with the Foundation’s Technical Department for the purposes of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance and coordinate museum activities with ongoing work during the construction phase.
