LUX is a public arts organization and museum dedicated to supporting artists working with moving images. Based in London and Glasgow, LUX is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation with additional funding from Creative Scotland and the British Council. The organization offers exhibitions, screenings, research, and Europe’s largest collection of films by artists, distributed globally.
Role Summary
The Director will lead LUX’s strategic and operational initiatives, managing its curatorial direction, partnerships, and finances while fostering a culture of inclusivity. This role involves oversight of the LUX collection, fundraising, audience engagement, and compliance with museum standards. As the primary public representative, the Director will nurture relationships with stakeholders, artists, and funders.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Set LUX’s vision, lead the business plan, and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
- Fundraising & Financial Oversight: Develop fundraising strategies, manage income and expenditures, and prepare annual budgets.
- Team & HR Management: Oversee senior staff, enforce HR policies, and ensure effective staff training.
- Program Oversight: Lead LUX’s curatorial and public engagement activities, building collaborations with the arts sector.
- Stakeholder Relations: Maintain relationships with funders and manage reporting for Arts Council England, the Charities Commission, and other bodies.
Essential Qualifications
- Senior management experience in an arts charity
- Strong finance, team management, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven fundraising experience and national/international networking
- Experience with contemporary visual arts, artists’ moving images, and Arts Council reporting
Desirable
- Experience managing a collection or accredited museum
- Familiarity with building management and collections/archive maintenance
