Role Overview
Yorkshire Contemporary is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to guide the organization’s growth as a key visual arts institution in the region. The Director will lead in defining the artistic vision, operational and financial management, and community engagement, with a strategic approach to program development and stakeholder relations. The role requires a passionate advocate for contemporary art who can connect deeply with audiences, artists, and communities, and maintain relationships with critical partners such as Arts Council England, Leeds City Council, and Bradford 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Artistic Leadership: Shape and implement Yorkshire Contemporary’s artistic vision in alignment with strategic goals and community relevance.
- Strategic Development: Collaborate with the Board and staff to develop and measure the impact of ambitious strategic initiatives.
- Programming: Curate inclusive, engaging programs that resonate with diverse audiences and support artists.
- Stakeholder Relations: Strengthen relationships with key partners and advocate for the organization in public forums.
- Advocacy for Diversity: Champion equity and diversity within the organization and in external relations.
- Fundraising: Secure and manage funding from public, private, and sponsorship sources.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in artistic leadership, including successful program development and community-oriented initiatives.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary visual art practices within the UK and globally.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, with a track record of securing public funding, grants, and sponsorships.
- Strong strategic and communication skills, with an ability to inspire and engage stakeholders, partners, and audiences.
