Chisenhale Gallery is seeking a Director to lead and shape the future of one of London’s most innovative contemporary art spaces. The Director will oversee the gallery’s artistic vision, operations, fundraising, and financial health, and will be instrumental in securing the gallery’s future premises and capital funding. The role involves working closely with the Board of Trustees and senior staff, mentoring artists, developing partnerships, and expanding the gallery’s national and international reach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Artistic Vision: Define and implement the gallery’s mission, vision, and values, overseeing its curatorial and social practice programs.
- Leadership and Management: Lead the staff team and support the professional development of employees. Supervise the Deputy Director, Curators, and other team members.
- Governance and Finance: Work with the Board of Trustees to ensure effective governance, develop fundraising strategies, and maintain financial stability.
- Fundraising: Secure funding through various channels, including grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donors, and major grants.
- Community Engagement: Forge partnerships with local, national, and international organizations, and advocate for the gallery’s mission and future.
- Capital Development: Work towards securing future premises for the gallery, with support from the Board and other stakeholders.
- Communication and Public Relations: Represent the gallery in external forums, media, and international art events.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree or postgraduate qualification in Art History, Fine Art, or Curatorial Studies, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: At least 2 years of leadership experience with a curatorial focus, with a deep understanding of contemporary art.
- Skills: Strong fundraising abilities, knowledge of the UK and international art scene, and excellent leadership and communication skills.
