The Barcelona Picasso Museum Foundation is launching an international open call to appoint its next Director. As a globally renowned institution dedicated to the formative years of Pablo Picasso and home to his only complete series Las Meninas, the Museum plays a vital role in Barcelona’s cultural and artistic ecosystem.
Employment Details
- Contract Type: Senior management employment contract (Royal Decree 1382/1985)
- Duration: 5 years, renewable for another 5
- Working Hours: Full-time
- Annual Gross Salary: €92,705.20 (subject to public sector increases)
Role Responsibilities
The Director will oversee the operational and artistic management of the Museum, reporting to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include strategic leadership, exhibition planning, programme development, institutional partnerships, staff oversight, and external representation.
Eligibility Criteria
- Hold a higher education degree in arts or humanities (EU/non-EU equivalencies accepted)
- Have at least 5 years of experience in cultural management (museums, art centres, etc.)
- Demonstrate expertise in Picasso’s life and work, and 20th-century art
- Be fluent in Catalan, Spanish, English and French (or commit to acquiring Catalan within one year)
- Meet legal eligibility to work in Spain or EU
