Institution: Access Gallery
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Contract: Full-time, one-year initial term (expected 3–5 year renewal)
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, flexible
Salary: $58,000–$61,000 per year + benefits

The Access Gallery, an artist-run centre founded in 1991, invites applications for a Director/Curator to lead the organization’s artistic vision and operational management. The Director/Curator will oversee curatorial programming, public engagement, exhibitions, publications, and fundraising while collaborating with the Board of Directors to implement Access’ 2025–2030 strategic plan, emphasizing inclusive programming, capacity building, and revenue diversification.
Responsibilities
Operational
- Research and write grants; secure funding from municipal, provincial, and federal bodies
- Manage organizational budgets and oversee fiscal matters
- Recruit, train, and manage staff, interns, and volunteers
- Oversee communications, public relations, and outreach
Curatorial
- Develop and implement artistic vision
- Curate exhibitions and public programming (talks, performances, readings, etc.)
- Develop programming partnerships and collaborations
- Oversee production of publications
Leadership
- Steward and grow donor base
- Collaborate with the Board on strategic plan, annual auction, and fundraising initiatives
- Support equity, accessibility, and anti-oppressive practices in governance and programming
Requirements
- Advanced degree in fine arts, curatorial studies, art history, visual culture, or equivalent experience
- Minimum two years in a public art gallery, artist-run centre, or similar cultural institution
- Proven grant writing and fundraising experience
- Strong writing, editorial, and curatorial skills, including publication experience
- Experience with budgeting, financial oversight, and administrative systems
- Excellent organizational, project, and time management skills
- Leadership experience and collaborative team management
- Knowledge of contemporary art practices and Canadian artist-run culture (Vancouver experience an asset)
- Additional assets: editorial/publication production, fundraising/donor relations, graphic design, digital communication
