Neutral Ground is an artist-run centre and non-profit contemporary art organisation based in Regina, Saskatchewan, dedicated to supporting emerging, experimental, and multidisciplinary artistic practices since 1982.
Operating on Treaty 4 territory, Neutral Ground combines exhibition programming, artist support, public engagement, and community-based cultural initiatives within a collaborative artist-run structure.
About the Role
The Director / Curator leads the organisation’s daily operations while shaping its curatorial vision and public programme. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the role combines arts administration, curatorial leadership, financial oversight, fundraising, and community engagement.
This position is both strategic and hands-on, balancing long-term institutional planning with direct involvement in exhibitions, partnerships, artist support, and operational management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the organisation and gallery space
- Develop and implement a curatorial and programming vision aligned with the organisation’s mission
- Curate exhibitions, projects, and public engagement initiatives
- Manage programming through a combination of curatorial projects and open-call processes
- Maintain charitable status and oversee institutional compliance documentation
- Develop, monitor, and update operational and project budgets
- Coordinate with accountants, bookkeepers, and board members on financial management
- Lead grant writing, reporting, and funder communications
- Develop partnerships, community engagement strategies, and public promotion
- Hire and supervise additional staff and collaborators
- Provide curatorial support and guidance to artists
- Report regularly to the Board on programming, finances, and operations
- Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and equity initiatives
- Support fundraising, sponsorship, membership development, and annual events
- Participate in exhibition installation, gallery maintenance, and visitor engagement
- Manage membership communications, equipment rentals, and administrative systems
Candidate Profile
- Post-secondary education in the arts, arts administration, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of curatorial and/or arts administration experience
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Experience in office management, administration, and organisational operations
- Strong communication and consensus-building abilities
- Experience with grant writing, budgeting, and public engagement
- Interest in experimental and contemporary artistic practices
- Ability to work across curatorial, administrative, and community-facing contexts
- Knowledge of equity-focused and decolonial approaches within arts organisations

- Independent curatorial, writing, or visual arts practice
- Experience with gallery promotion and social media engagement
- Additional language proficiency
- Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Comfort working with exhibition installation tools and ladders
