Artes Mundi is an internationally focused contemporary arts organisation based in Cardiff and is one of Wales’ flagship arts organisations. Founded in 2002 as a biennial exhibition and prize, we have become one of the best-known visual arts organisations in the UK with an extensive UK and international media profile and critical reputation.
Founded in 2002, Artes Mundi is best known for its biennial exhibition and prize at National Museum Cardiff. One of the shortlisted artists is awarded the prize of £40,000, the largest art prize in Britain and one of the most significant in the world. Previous winners include: John Akomfrah (2017), Theaster Gates (2015), Teresa Margolles (2013), Yael Bartana (2011), NS Harsha (2009), Eija-Liisa Ahtila (2007) and Xu Bing (2005).
We seek a creative and dynamic full time Director & Curator to lead the organisation and to continue to develop its international programme of activity, building on the success of previous Artes Mundi exhibitions, most recently Artes Mundi 8, won by Thai filmmaker and artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Applicants will need to demonstrate a proven track record of successful leadership of an arts organisation, wide knowledge and expertise in the international contemporary visual arts sector and a strong commitment to fulfilling Artes Mundi’s mission: “to bring exceptional and challenging international artists to Wales and to generate unique opportunities for individuals and local communities to engage creatively with the urgent issues of our time”.
We operate an Equal Opportunities Recruitment Policy and welcome applications from all sections of the community in Welsh or English.
