The City Administration of Erfurt is seeking a Director of Art Museums to lead the programming, conceptual, and strategic direction of its renowned cultural institutions, including the Angermuseum, Kunsthalle Erfurt, Schlossmuseum Molsdorf, and Galerie Waidspeicher. These museums play a vital role in the vibrant cultural life of Erfurt, fostering dialogue on historical and contemporary art both locally and nationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership, including the management of personnel, program planning, and organizational development.
- Oversee collections management, exhibitions, and collaborative research initiatives.
- Facilitate partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders to promote the museums’ mission.
- Drive fundraising and project management efforts, aligning with city and museum objectives.
- Ensure efficient operational management, including resource planning, financial oversight, and compliance with public service regulations.
- Contribute to structural developments, such as digitization and depot planning.
- Represent the museums in media and public relations, contributing to their visibility and reputation.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in art history, cultural studies, curatorial studies, museology, or related fields.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience in museum management or cultural institutions.
- Proven leadership skills, with an emphasis on strategic communication and conflict resolution.
- Expertise in project and budget management, as well as public administration protocols.
- Strong knowledge of the museum collections and familiarity with research and exhibition strategies.
- Proficiency in German and English; additional languages are an asset.
