OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Mariane Ibrahim, a leading contemporary art gallery with locations in Chicago, Paris, and Mexico City, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Communications to lead its global communication efforts. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in communications, with a focus on both local and international media, particularly within the French and Mexican press. They will be responsible for crafting and executing strategic communication plans, managing media relations, and enhancing the gallery’s brand identity across all platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to promote the gallery’s exhibitions, artists, and brand initiatives across all gallery locations. Collaborate with the Director’s and other key stakeholders to align communication efforts with the gallery’s mission and vision.
  2. Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, national, and international media outlets, with a focus on U.S., French and international. Pitch story ideas, coordinate interviews, and secure media coverage for exhibitions, artists, and gallery owner Mariane Ibrahim.
  3. Content Creation: Write compelling press releases, artist bios, and promotional materials in English, French, and Spanish, on a regular basis, updating when needed. Work closely with translators and editors to ensure accuracy and consistency across all languages. Develop engaging content for social media channels and the gallery website.
  4. Social Media Management: Oversee the management of social media channels for all gallery locations, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement. Develop strategies to grow and engage the gallery’s online audience while maintaining brand consistency.
  5. Brand Audit and Messaging: Conduct regular brand audits and updates to ensure messaging aligns with the gallery’s mission and vision. Adapt messaging for different global markets and cultural contexts as the gallery expands into new territories.
  6. Marketing and Advertising: Design and implement marketing and advertising plans to promote exhibitions and events, both locally and internationally. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to execute campaigns within budget and timeline constraints.
  7. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with staff across all gallery locations, adhering to different time zones and requirements. Report to the Director of the Chicago location and work closely with colleagues to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  8. Website Management and Database Maintenance: Oversee communication efforts on the gallery website, ensuring content is up-to-date and engaging. Manage marketing collateral and maintain mailing databases for targeted outreach campaigns.
  9. Institutional Exhibition Support: Collaborate with artists represented by Mariane Ibrahim to coordinate media coverage and messaging for institutional exhibitions at museums and cultural institutions worldwide. Work closely with curators, museum staff, and artists to facilitate exhibition planning, logistics, and promotion. Support artists in leveraging institutional exhibitions to enhance their career visibility and CV, ensuring maximum exposure and impact.

QUALIFIATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Art History, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a communications role, preferably in the arts or cultural sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (French/Spanish as a bonus).
  • Proven track record of securing media coverage and managing successful communication campaigns.
  • Experience with social media management tools and platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and the global art market is preferred.
