Salary: $79,000–$82,000 annually

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) is seeking a dynamic Director of Curatorial Affairs to lead its curatorial vision and team. This senior leadership position emphasizes the integration of exhibitions with educational initiatives, driving public engagement and fostering inclusivity. The role includes curating exhibitions, overseeing educational programming, and managing a diverse team of curators and educators.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic curatorial vision, emphasizing learning and audience engagement.
  • Curate 1–2 major exhibitions annually, aligned with the museum’s focus areas: Chicago Imagism, American Regionalism, Modern and Contemporary North American prints, and photography.
  • Supervise and mentor curatorial and educational staff.
  • Promote accessible, inclusive programming to engage diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and cultural groups to enhance outreach.
  • Manage the curatorial budget and ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Conduct scholarly research to inform exhibitions and programs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Education, or related field.
  • Experience: At least five years in curatorial roles, with a focus on education and public engagement.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, project management, and communication abilities. Proficiency in museum best practices and curatorial methodologies.
  • Commitment: Dedication to inclusivity, equity, and accessibility.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends for events and installations.
