
Director of Development
We are looking for a Director of Development to lead our widely respected and talented Development team as we reimagine the future of fundraising for the arts. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Serpentine has delivered solidly on programme and fundraising to maintain a high standard of activity and income. Therefore, we are in a great position to focus on recovery and growth following a development team restructure.
This role will support the CEO and Artist Director in implementing their goals of broadening our network of supporters. They will manage Serpentine’s philanthropic engagement efforts and lead a high performing team to meet quarterly fundraising goals. The Director of Development will be central in achieving income growth to help realise the long-term vision of Serpentine supported by and for its global audiences. Serpentine is in the midst of a robust capital campaign and the incoming Director of Development will be responsible for raising an additional £10m by 2024 for an exciting new proposition for our prospects and donors.
Unlike many similarly titled roles, this position provides real opportunity for the postholder to contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation by managing income growth systems and supporting the trust and grant pipeline. There will be ample opportunity in this role to hone one’s management and leadership skills in a high energy and inspiring environment. We are looking for a level-headed colleague with a passion for the art world who can help set priorities for the team on a daily basis whilst keeping sight of the agreed targets and longer-term objectives.
Candidates will be experienced with
- Developing and successfully implementing fundraising activity and strategies to grow philanthropic, sponsorship, grant and commercial income.
- Motivating and leading a development team of 5 or more full time employees, ensuring that projects and prospects are prioritised most effectively, and workloads are managed realistically.
- Meeting targets and managing risk around all income areas.
- Contributing to the overall strategic direction of an organisation and Senior Management Team decisions.
