Position Overview

MAMBO is seeking a Director of Education and Public Programs to effectively lead the education department. The role involves implementing the educational strategy, work plan, and annual budget in collaboration with the team and various Museum stakeholders. The Director will guide demographic studies of audiences, mediation strategies, inclusion and accessibility initiatives, pedagogical material development, and public programming within the Museum’s exhibition cycles, benefiting diverse populations and the social, environmental, cultural, and economic sustainability of the local area and city. Additionally, they will develop and/or continue training programs both within the Museum and in the field, managing partnerships, collaborations, and resource acquisition from private and public entities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts, education, or related humanities field, with a master’s degree in museological studies or related area.
  • Proven experience in directing cultural and/or educational projects (minimum of 5 years).
  • Pedagogical experience with museum audiences and mediation processes (minimum of 2 years).
  • Proactive and assertive individual with excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Experience in team leadership.
  • Technological competencies, particularly in Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Presentations, and Spreadsheets).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the educational strategy, work plan, and annual budget.
  • Lead and supervise the planning and execution of public programming, specific projects, events, and proposed activities, benefiting diverse populations and aligning with defined exhibition schedules.
  • Cultivate partnerships, collaborations, and resource acquisition from private and public entities to support educational projects and activities.
  • Guide audience studies and demographic characterization of Museum visitors and program participants.
  • Direct the management and execution of the department following the Museum’s mission and directives.
  • Provide guidance to the department’s team to achieve annual goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the annual volunteer program and the recruitment of interns and contractors according to project or activity needs.
  • Promote continuous improvement processes that lead to sustainable programs and activities.
  • Foster ongoing communication and relationships with the Museum team, artists, participants, collaborators, lecturers, local communities, and various Museum stakeholders.
  • Support the management of different Museum departments and their interaction with the education department.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals and management reports for various public and private institutions.
