The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo is seeking a new Director of Exhibitions and Collections to lead and develop Norway’s largest collection of art, architecture, and design. The Director will oversee the museum’s core curatorial departments, including the Library and Archives, the newly established Art Section, and the Section for Architecture, Crafts and Design.
This senior role involves shaping strategy, managing interdisciplinary teams, and fostering internal and external collaboration. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership experience—ideally having managed other leaders—alongside academic training in art history, architecture or related fields. Research experience is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Department of Exhibitions and Collections
- Oversee and develop curatorial sections and library/archive services
- Contribute to strategic development at both professional and organizational levels
- Collaborate across departments and with external institutions
- Promote public access to and engagement with the collection
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership and strategic planning skills
- Higher education in art history, architecture or related disciplines
- Professional-level fluency in a Scandinavian language and English
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
- Experience in research is advantageous
