Introduction

Position Summary
- Curates and/or works with curators on department exhibitions and curatorial projects, primarily in the SAIC Galleries but also at other venues on and off-campus, such as annual performance festivals and special exhibitions
- Develops and/or co-develops and oversees related public programs with SAIC faculty and students, with civic and community partners, and with other professionals in the field
- Develops and supervises practicum experience for student assistants, while teaching concepts and skills, at times within a formal classroom structure, and providing daily guidance and mentorship
- Serves as department outreach director for community organizations in development and implementation of program initiatives related to departmental exhibitions and research projects
- Oversees travel, housing, and hospitality needs for the department, including planning and coordination of receptions, public events, as well as travel and hospitality for invited guests
- Oversees daily accounting for the department and coordinates budget planning and review for annual exhibitions, making sure protocols are followed and appropriate accounting records are maintained
- Participates in setting and achieving goals for the department as an integrated academic and administrative unit that serves the student body and faculty, Chicago art community, and contemporary art field
Qualifications
M.A. or M.F.A degree Art or equivalent. Knowledge of public programming and outreach within an academic setting. Minimum 3 years experience with administration in a public gallery, museum, or equivalent required. The successful candidate should demonstrate a broad art historical foundation in 20th and 21st-century art, as well as expertise or experience in a distinct area or areas relevant to expanding notions of contemporary art. Management or supervisory experience is necessary. Strong writing skills are essential.
