The Editor of the Association for Art History’s prestigious academic journal, Art History, completes her term of office at the end of June 2022. Applications are therefore now sought for this position.
Art History is an international, refereed journal that promotes world-class art-historical scholarship from across the globe. It publishes essays and critical reviews that foreground methodological self-reflexivity and highlights specific areas of concern and interest to the field through its special issue programme. It represents the diversity of the discipline at large and welcomes submissions from both established and emerging scholars. Art History stands at the forefront of disciplinary challenges and is a model of excellence for original and innovative research.
Candidates will be expected to have a substantial research profile and publication record together with significant experience of editing. They will demonstrate a compelling vision for the journal in terms of the field at large, as well as in relation to the changing nature of academic publishing. An understanding of how Art History contributes to furthering the wider goals of the Association for Art History will be essential.
The role comprises the following principle responsibilities:
- the soliciting and commissioning of material for the journal, including the development and delivery of its special issue programme;
- the selection of submitted essays in accordance with the journal’s peer review and editorial policies;
- the editing of material selected for publication to meet the journal’s production schedule.
- The position is supported by the journal’s editorial office and applicants are expected to combine it with their regular employment. The successful candidate shall receive an honorarium of £8,000 per annum, and occupy the post for a period of up to five years, renewable annually.
