Position Overview
The Educational Activities Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating educational activities based on the MASP collection and temporary exhibitions, in dialogue with the Mediation and Public Programs department. The role involves leading discussions on MASP’s accessibility project, researching topics and pedagogical approaches to mediate the audience’s relationship with the collection and exhibitions, implementing workshop and guided tour programs, monitoring MASP School courses, and managing scheduling. The coordinator will be expected to achieve targets for program audiences, responding to qualitative metrics and annual reports.
Responsibilities
Programming
- Compile a list of potential artists, educators, and collectives to meet the regular workshop schedule, present to the management for approval, and send invitations later.
- Establish contacts and interactions for these activities, research topics and pedagogical approaches.
- Negotiate with potential program facilitators based on the pre-approved budget with support from the production department.
- Hold regular meetings with the accessibility consultants hired by the museum, aiming to build an inclusion policy. Develop short, medium, and long-term accessibility action plans for different audiences.
- Support MASP School courses by attending classes and assisting teachers.
- Participate in Mediation and Public Programs team meetings, aligning with other curatorial activities.
- Lead guided tours for organized groups by the institutional relations department, as well as organize and conduct the regular direct mediation program for the exhibited collection (currently named Dialogues in the Collection).
- Manage the group scheduling system and oversee intern work related to the system.
- Possess knowledge of creating image descriptions for materials supporting temporary exhibitions and the collection.
Execution
- Oversee technical visits of proposers to the spaces where activities will take place, gather information and graphic material for promotional materials in relation to the communication department.
- Compile lists of materials for budgeting and purchase by the finance department.
- Create checklists to inform unit sectors involved in activity execution; monitor activities to provide support to facilitators, collaborators, and the public.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree and/or postgraduate degree in social sciences, history, or visual arts.
- Experience in museums and other cultural institutions.
- Experience in researching cultural projects and actions.
- Experience in executing accessibility projects in museums and/or other cultural institutions.
- Experience in mediation and conducting workshops.
Desirable
- Advanced or fluent English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Networking with artists, educators, collectives, and art and culture system agents.
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art, particularly attention to the curatorial program and recent acquisitions of the MASP collection, and the work of women, Afro-descendant, and indigenous artists.
- Strong command of proper Portuguese language and ease in producing texts about activities performed.
