Engagement Program for International and U.S. Curators

AAMC Foundation’s Engagement Program for International Curators (EPIC) offers curators a rare and valuable platform for cross-cultural connections and relationship building. Participants gain new perspectives, partake in multi-national conversations, and advance professional skills. The 2021 EPIC program is entirely virtual and will award six International Awardees and six U.S. Liaisons.

With inclusion spanning 27 countries, the AAMC Foundation creates and strengthens international relationships between curators by providing a cross-cultural platform and programming. Specifically, EPIC has connected 28 curators from 9 countries, including support for curators from the United Kingdom, made possible by the Art Fund, in addition to our American Art-focused program. As we celebrate our fifth year of EPIC engagement, we are pleased to bring curators this opportunity again.

Applications become available on Saturday, November 21, 2020 and are open to nonprofit curators around the globe having worked or currently working within collections, exhibitions and/or currently with projects in development that explore historical art of the United States (c. 1500-1980), including Native American Art and U.S. Latinx Art, as well as painting; sculpture; works on paper, such as prints, drawing and photography; decorative arts; performance; and design (except industrial). Architecture and commercial film are excluded.

The final deadline to apply is 12pm ET on Friday, January 8. This program is made possible through the generous support of the Terra Foundation for American Art.

2021 VIRTUAL PROGRAM BENEFITS

The program is fully funded for participants and the application process is free and available online. Pairings are introduced in February 2021 and meet virtually at least twice to advance shared interests, goals, and dialogues. They will work together to host a Curator Gathering, an informal 45-minute peer-to-peer discussion open to our curatorial community on a topic of their choosing in the fall/winter 2021. Together, the full 2021 cohort will collaborate to create a free and open webinar for the larger AAMC Foundation network. The program ends in December 2021.

International Awardees receive a stipend to participate and gain access to the full AAMC Foundation community, in addition to the Art Curators Conference and Program Alumni reception. U.S. Liaisons receive a stipend for their commitment and partnership with their international counterpart.

ABOUT ART FUND

Art Fund is the national fundraising charity for art. In the past five years alone, Art Fund has given £34 million to help museums and galleries acquire works of art for their collections. Art Fund is independently funded, with the core of its income provided by 139,000 members who receive the National Art Pass and enjoy free entry to over 240 museums, galleries and historic places across the U.K., as well as 50% off entry to major exhibitions and subscription to Art Quarterly magazine. In addition to grant giving, Art Fund’s support to museums includes Art Fund Museum of the Year (won by Tate St Ives in 2018) and a range of digital platforms. ABOUT TERRA FOUNDATION FOR AMERICAN ART

The Terra Foundation for American Art is dedicated to fostering exploration, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts of the United States for national and international audiences. Recognizing the importance of experiencing original works of art, the foundation provides opportunities for interaction and study, beginning with the presentation and growth of its own art collection in Chicago. To further cross-cultural dialogue on American art, the foundation supports and collaborates on innovative exhibitions, research, and educational programs. Implicit in such activities is the belief that art has the potential to both distinguish cultures and to unite them.
