The British Museum is seeking a new EDI Manager (Public Engagement) to manage access, inclusion and equity for visitors to the museum. The museum is looking to hire an enthusiastic and organized individual to drive improvement and change by developing and facilitating the implementation of the Museum’s EDI Plan, which aims to embed EDI across all aspects of public engagement at the Museum, from our buildings and spaces to our learning programmes, exhibitions, and digital channels. In this pivotal role, the postholder will also ensure that the museum is compliant with the latest equality legislation. The postholder will also deliver a programme of accessible events.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Develop and deliver the public engagement aspects of the Museum’s EDI action plan, by maintaining inclusive and best-practice procedures and policies
  • Co-chair the EDI Stakeholder Group and reporting to the EDI Steering Group
  • Collaborate closely with different internal departments to ensure that accessible facilities are implemented and marketed for disabled audiences, to create a safe and accessible environment within the museum for disabled audiences.
  • Represent the museum on public engagement matters as appropriate
  • Keep up with the latest legislature and knowledge of external developments on EDI in public engagement, keeping senior personnel informed and applying it as appropriate

About you:

As an experienced individual, you will have prior experience developing EDI initiatives and an understanding of change programmes. With keen attention to detail you will be able to identify complex issues and troubleshoot them appropriately. Working with a variety of stakeholders from different backgrounds, you will be able to communicate effectively (written and oral). It is essential to have a degree or equivalent experience.
