Brookline Arts Center (BAC) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organisation’s artistic, operational, and financial strategy. Founded over 60 years ago, BAC is a visual arts centre in the Greater Boston area offering classes, exhibitions, community outreach initiatives, and an artist residency, serving more than 1,200 participants annually.
The Executive Director will provide overall leadership for the organisation, overseeing fundraising, programming, operations, and community engagement while working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the long-term sustainability of the centre.
Responsibilities
Development and Fundraising

Oversee fundraising initiatives and develop strategies with the Board

Steward relationships with donors and sponsors

Research and write grants for programmes and operational support

Manage grant implementation, reporting, and compliance
Strategic Leadership, Programming and Community Outreach

Ensure the quality and relevance of BAC’s core arts programmes

Build partnerships and strengthen community engagement

Recruit and retain high-quality teaching faculty

Analyse enrolment trends, programme performance, and tuition strategies
Public Relations and Marketing

Serve as BAC’s public representative and advocate

Build relationships with community, arts, and business leaders

Strengthen partnerships with local organisations and schools

Oversee marketing and outreach strategies and maintain brand consistency
Operations and Finance

Manage day-to-day operations including administration, finance, and HR

Prepare the annual budget and report regularly to the Board

Oversee facilities management and maintenance of the historic building

Lead staff development and maintain a collaborative workplace culture
Governance

Report directly to the Board of Directors

Collaborate with the Board on strategy, mission stewardship, and governance

Ensure transparency and clear communication with Board members
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred)

At least 4 years of experience in a management or executive role in a nonprofit organisation

Strong commitment to arts education and community engagement

Experience leading and developing diverse teams

Experience with fundraising campaigns and events preferred

Ability to manage budgets and interpret financial statements

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends for programmes and events
