Overview

Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art (Tephra ICA), a non-profit organization, seeks an Executive Director & Curator. This combined role is crucial in leading the institution’s mission to promote contemporary art. The successful candidate will drive both operational and creative decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Exhibitions: Manage exhibitions featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists at the main gallery and innovative local and regional artists at Tephra ICA at Signature gallery. Oversee robust interdisciplinary public programming.
  2. Educational Programs: Lead educational initiatives, including the county-wide K-12 Emerging Visions program and Summer Art Camp.
  3. Tephra ICA Arts Festival: Direct the nationally ranked arts festival.
  4. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the ongoing capital campaign to establish a world-class space eligible for AAM accreditation.
  5. Equity Commitment: Implement and extend Tephra ICA’s equity commitments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in art history, arts management, museum or curatorial studies, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership, organizational skills, and management experience.
  • Successful track record in grant writing and fundraising.
  • Strong commitment to social and cultural equity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strategic and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, board of directors, artists, sponsors, and supporters.
