About the Role

argos, the Centre for Audiovisual Arts in Brussels, is seeking an experienced Exhibition and Event Producer to coordinate the technical and organisational production of exhibitions, screenings, and public programmes. This permanent part-time position combines project management with hands-on exhibition installation, making it ideal for professionals who enjoy both planning and practical production work.

The successful candidate will play a central role in delivering approximately two major exhibitions and two to three smaller presentations each year, primarily focused on artists’ moving image, film, and video. In addition, the position supports recurring public events, including screenings and talks, ensuring that all technical aspects are delivered to a high professional standard.

Working closely with curators, artists, freelance technicians, suppliers, and the collections team, the Exhibition and Event Producer will help transform curatorial concepts into successful public presentations while maintaining argos’ commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Exhibition Production

  • Coordinate the complete production process for exhibitions and public programmes.
  • Translate curatorial concepts into realistic production schedules and technical plans.
  • Plan and supervise exhibition installation and de-installation.
  • Prepare technical specifications and obtain supplier quotations.
  • Contribute to contracts and production administration.
  • Develop and monitor exhibition and production budgets.
  • Coordinate logistics with artists, curators, lenders, and project partners.
  • Order or rent audiovisual equipment, furniture, and installation materials.
  • Document technical installations for future presentations.
  • Promote sustainable exhibition practices by reusing materials whenever possible.

Technical Production

  • Develop technical plans for lighting, sound, projection, power distribution, and installation schedules.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for exhibitions and events.
  • Install and maintain audiovisual artworks and presentation equipment.
  • Provide technical support for screenings, talks, performances, and other public programmes.
  • Coordinate freelance technicians during exhibition builds.
  • Maintain the organisation’s audiovisual equipment, tools, and technical inventory.
  • Monitor the condition of exhibition infrastructure and coordinate building-related technical improvements.
  • Ensure all installations comply with health and safety regulations.

Collection Support (Depending on Experience)

  • Support audiovisual digitisation and preservation projects.
  • Carry out quality control for digitised audiovisual material.
  • Prepare files for distribution and exhibition use.
  • Advise on sustainable digital preservation workflows.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have at least four years of professional experience in exhibition production within the visual arts or cultural sector, combining organisational skills with practical technical expertise.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with artists, curators, galleries, museums, or cultural institutions and will be confident managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high production standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum four years of experience in exhibition production.
  • Experience installing audiovisual artworks and exhibitions.
  • Knowledge of digital film and video formats.
  • Experience with audiovisual playback systems and projection technologies.
  • Proficiency with software such as Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, ffWorks, VLC, Mitti, QLab, and BrightSign Author.
  • Experience handling artworks and coordinating suppliers.
  • Strong project planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing production budgets.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to coordinate freelance technicians and external collaborators.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures for exhibition production.
  • Fluency in English is required; Dutch and/or French are considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and intensive installation periods.
