How You Will Contribute
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking an Exhibition Assistant for its major comprehensive survey of contemporary Korean art, Decoding Contemporary Korean Art (working title) to be presented in spring of 2021. The exhibition will comprise of approximately 50 works created by approximately 30 artists of Korean descent from around the world and will also accompany a scholarly catalog. This position will run through November 2021.
Specifically, you will:
Support the curators of the exhibition in all aspects of its preparation as necessary. This will encompass both administrative responsibilities and content related tasks, inclusive of but not limited to:
- Conducting ground research on the artists
- Developing and maintaining the list of works of art in the show in the Museum’s TMS database
- Assisting with the loan process
- Facilitating communications with the lending institutions and artists in Korean and English
- Facilitate cross-departmental communication
- Assist with the development of the installation design
- Drafting exhibition didactics with Curators
- Corresponding with artists as necessary
- Aid in developing public programs
- Assist with media and social media efforts
- Work relating to the catalogue will include working with Curators and Publishing
- Department on all aspects of the book from liaising with its authors and designer to pursuing rights and reproductions.
Your background and experience include:
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Asian Art History with extensive knowledge in Korean Art
- Fluency and strong communication skill in Korean language
- Technical proficiency with personal computers and standard office equipment; fluent with Microsoft Office platform (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Position and Compensation Details
The hourly rate for this position is $18.
This position is full-time, non-exempt working 35 hours per week.
This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
