Exhibition Assistant Internship
Photo Forum is Seeking an Exhibition Assistant Intern
Application deadline: July 15, 2026
Over the six-month internship you accompany two to three exhibitions from preparation through to closing. You experience several full cycles of build-up, communication, and public events, and gain a well-rounded, hands-on understanding of how a contemporary photography exhibition comes together.
Work areas
Exhibitions
You work closely with the director and the team on all stages of exhibition production: research, editorial and translation work on exhibition texts and press releases (primarily in French, and in English depending on proficiency), and the preparation of lists of works. You are in direct contact with artists and play an active role in planning, mediating, and running the events and guided tours tied to each exhibition. You also take part in the physical setup and dismantling of the shows — handling and installing works, mounting wall texts, and preparing the spaces — which is genuinely hands-on, practical work.
Communication/PR
Communication is a central part of this role. You create and schedule social media posts, produce and send newsletters and mailings via Mailchimp, and keep the website up to date. You prepare press documents, submit event listings to cultural agendas and museum portals, and help promote the Photoforum’s exhibitions and events to a wider public. You also contribute to the ongoing documentation of the exhibitions.
Assistance to the Director
You support the director directly in her day-to-day work — preparing documents and meetings, coordinating schedules, and assisting with a range of organizational tasks. This gives you close, first-hand insight into how a small art institution is run.
Administration
General correspondence, contact and address management, and support with bookkeeping.
Working Conditions
- 6 months, from September 2026 to March 2027 (with possibility of extension)
The exhibition assistant works within a small team and benefits from an inspiring work environment that values personal initiative. - The internship is paid CHF 800 per month at 60%.
- Working days are generally Monday to Wednesday, but may vary during exhibition installations and events when your on-site presence is required. Overtime is compensated with time off, and schedules are planned well in advance to take these periods into account.
