The Exhibition Designer will lead the design process for temporary exhibitions and permanent gallery projects, creating innovative and engaging spaces that enhance visitor experience while meeting the highest standards of safety, accessibility, and design. This role collaborates with curators, conservationists, and other museum teams to materialize curatorial narratives into dynamic physical displays.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership:
    • Translate curatorial narratives into physical spaces for exhibitions and gallery displays.
    • Develop design concepts, sketches, 3D models, and floor plans to visualize exhibition layouts.
  • Project Coordination:
    • Evaluate spatial needs, create detailed plans, and coordinate design resources for each project.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors for production and construction.
  • Fabrication and Installation:
    • Draft and produce fabrication drawing packages for display components (e.g., casework, pedestals).
    • Supervise fabrication and oversee installation to ensure quality and adherence to designs.
  • Budget and Scheduling:
    • Work with project managers to develop production schedules and budgets for exhibition projects.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3–5 years in architecture, exhibition design, or interior/industrial design (museum experience preferred).
    • Proven ability to manage design projects from concept to completion.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in CAD software (VectorWorks preferred), 3D modeling (e.g., SketchUp), and Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Expertise in drafting, fabrication, and material processes for the built environment.
    • Strong time management, communication, and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods (50% of the time).
  • Frequent movement through museum galleries and offices.
  • Proficient operation of computers and digital tools.
