Gallery 1957 is seeking an Exhibition Production Assistant to support the planning, logistics, installation, and day-to-day coordination of exhibitions and public programming at its London space.

With galleries in Accra and London, Gallery 1957 focuses on contemporary African art and works closely with emerging and established artists from across Africa and the diaspora through exhibitions, residencies, and international art fairs.

About the Role

The Exhibition Production Assistant will work closely with directors, artists, technicians, logistics partners, and the wider Gallery 1957 team across Ghana and the UK to ensure exhibitions are delivered to a high professional standard.

The position combines exhibition production, gallery operations, administration, communications support, and coordination of public programmes and art fair participation.

Responsibilities

  • Support exhibition planning, installation, and deinstallation processes
  • Coordinate artwork transport, handling, logistics, and condition reporting
  • Prepare wall texts, labels, and exhibition materials
  • Monitor installation schedules and production timelines
  • Support daily gallery operations and visitor engagement
  • Maintain schedules, budgets, inventories, contracts, and loan documentation
  • Coordinate communication with artists, technicians, shipping agents, and external partners
  • Track exhibition expenses and support budget management
  • Create and manage artist sales assets using Artlogic
  • Assist with press releases, newsletters, and promotional materials
  • Coordinate photography and videography documentation for exhibitions and events
  • Support logistics for art fairs, openings, talks, and public programmes
  • Travel to fairs and external events when required

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in coordination, administration, or project management roles
  • Understanding of exhibition installation and artwork handling procedures
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Suite
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite or Canva preferred
  • Strong research and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Interest in contemporary African art and the global art scene
  • Proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem solving
