About EPS: Empowering Artists and Curators
The Exhibition Proposal Series (EPS) offers artists and curators a chance to collaborate with Gallery 263 staff and create curated exhibitions in our 700-square-foot storefront gallery. This pivotal program constitutes around three annual shows, standing as Gallery 263’s primary exhibition initiative. It’s also the exclusive route for consideration in proposing solo or group exhibitions.

Streamlined Review Process
Our dedicated team of Gallery 263 staff and board members collectively engages in a democratic review process. This thorough assessment culminates in the selection of a single exhibition. We extend our gratitude to rtangent for generously enabling us to document and archive the chosen exhibition in a virtual tour. Delve into an illustrative example of a past exhibition.
Deliberations and Criteria
Numerous factors shape the panel’s decisions when it comes to selecting exhibitions for the Exhibition Proposal Series. Our goal is to foster career development for visual artists and introduce our local community to high-quality, concept-driven exhibitions. A compelling proposal acknowledges the distinct nature of our versatile space and captivates our audience both visually and conceptually. Explore our mission for more insights.
A Humble Request
Gallery 263, as a nonprofit entity, relies on the dedication of volunteer board members, limited staff, and local volunteers who share a passion for art. We deeply value our mission and appreciate your understanding of our human limitations.
Given our modest budget, we are unable to waive submission fees. These fees are essential to support our nonprofit’s operational expenses, ensuring our lights stay on. Your support is truly invaluable.
Additional Opportunity: 2023 Curated Group Exhibition
In December 2023, the Gallery 263 exhibitions director will curate an exclusive group exhibition. This showcase will feature artists who submitted proposals to 2023 calls but were not selected. It’s important to note that proposal submission doesn’t guarantee inclusion. Artists can choose to opt out of this consideration process.
Eligibility and Guidelines
- Solo proposals are open only to New England artists.
- For group proposals, a minimum of 50% of participating artists must hail from New England.
- At least half of the submitted work should be from the last two years.
- All media, both group and solo, are welcome. We encourage proposals from groups of two artists or more.
- The representative artist/curator must be a New England resident.
- Entries can be existing or proposed work. Proposed installations should occupy less than 25% of the floor space. Artists are responsible for any required A/V equipment. Exhibitions must be set up in under three days.
- Familiarize yourself with Gallery 263’s space before submitting your proposal – a visit is strongly recommended.
- Sculptures and video-based installations should accommodate our diverse programming, such as yoga, life drawing nights, and music events. Optimal locations for 3D works are windows, wall-mounted sculptures, and pedestals. Video pieces are best presented on artist-provided monitors.
