We are seeking an Exhibition Research Assistant to join the V&A on an exciting exhibition of a leading twentieth century Mexican artist.

This exhibition will explore the clothing, art, design, and personal belongings of a leading twentieth century Mexican artist. It will closely examine representations of self, gender, disability and ethnicity seeking to give a uniquely personal insight into the life of this subject.

The exhibition will be highly collaborative, working with international partner institutions, as well as many colleagues within the V&A. A cross-cultural events programme will be a crucial part of the project.

The successful candidate will assist in the development and delivery of the exhibition. He/She will be a practically minded scholar, with sound diplomacy skills, and an understanding of museology display approaches. In particular, the Exhibition Research Assistant will undertake research, build and maintain good relations with lenders and other stakeholders and carry out essential curatorial administration. He/She will also assist the Exhibition Curator to deliver the accompanying publication and events.

You will have a good general knowledge of the history of twentieth century art and design with a particular interest in traditional textiles, clothing, and image-making, and an understanding of the wider landscape of Mexican history its art, politics and culture. You will also have experience of researching for and delivering a temporary exhibition or display in addition to researching museum collections and the ability to carry out research independently.
