Somerset House Studios

Located in central London, Somerset House Studios is a space for artistic experimentation. It supports artists across disciplines to develop bold ideas, engage with urgent issues, and experiment with new technologies. The Studios hosts up to 70 resident artists and develops ambitious cross-disciplinary projects, powering Channel, Somerset House’s online art platform.

Role Description

The Exhibitions and Special Projects Manager will lead the development and delivery of special commissions and projects across 2025. The role demands flexibility and the ability to adapt to the program’s changing needs. The manager will collaborate closely with the Exhibitions and Live Events teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and delivery of commissions, installations, and exhibition projects.
  • Collaborate with curators, artists, and internal teams.
  • Oversee project schedules and coordinate installations.
  • Ensure compliance with Somerset House policies and regulations.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts with external contractors and artists.
  • Manage project budgets and address challenges proactively.
  • Coordinate transport, insurance, and display arrangements for artworks.
  • Ensure safety and security of artworks in storage and transit.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in exhibition processes.
  • Support tour planning and production requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in organizing contemporary commissions and exhibitions.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Experience with outdoor installations and AV equipment.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Practical experience in object handling, shipping, and insurance.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and sustainable exhibitions.
