The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
Exhibitions Assistant
£21,250 per annum
Full-time, 35 hours (5 days) per week
Fixed Term Contract for 20 months
This is an exciting time to be joining the National Portrait Gallery as an Exhibitions Assistant. The post holder will provide administrative and practical support to the Exhibition Officer, Exhibitions Managers and the Head of Exhibitions in the realisation of the loan, touring and competitions exhibitions programme.
To be considered for this post you will need a minimum of 5 GCSE’s (A-C grades), including in Maths and English, and have a proven interest in working in a cultural organisation and in arts administration. This is a fast paced role and so the successful post holder will need to have excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise their workload and remain calm under pressure. You will also have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a meticulous eye for detail.
This role will require you to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the Gallery. You will need to have strong IT skills and a high level of competence in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Please note that we are currently working remotely from home due to the impact of Covid-19 but normally most of the work is based in the Gallery at St Martin’s Place.
