Overview
The Design Museum seeks an experienced individual to join the Exhibitions team. The role involves delivering high-profile exhibitions, ensuring production and installation meet museum standards, on time, and within budget. Responsibilities include managing exhibition concepts, logistics, contracts, schedules, and budgets, as well as touring exhibitions nationally and internationally.

- Management: Handle budgets, staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Reporting: Directly to the Senior Manager: Exhibitions and Touring.
- Line Management: Possible supervision of an Exhibitions Coordinator.
Job Description
Production & Administration
- Coordinate exhibition delivery with curators and partners.
- Chair project meetings, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Communicate exhibition details to the wider museum team.
- Manage 2D and 3D exhibition elements, adhering to safety standards.
- Handle tendering processes and contracts.
Installation & De-rig
- Lead installation and de-rig teams.
- Plan schedules and manage on-site activities.
- Complete risk assessments and ensure safety compliance.
Budgets
- Maintain budget records and report regularly.
- Aim for financial efficiency and on-budget delivery.
Touring
- Manage touring exhibitions, including logistics and documentation.
- Ensure exhibitions are suitable for touring from inception.
- Develop tour packs and brochures.
People Management
- Lead and develop junior staff and volunteers.
- Promote museum values within the team.
- Manage cross-departmental communication.
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
Essential:
- Project management with sizeable budgets.
- Risk management and tendering experience.
- Experience in museum/gallery exhibition management.
- Line management skills.
- Strong knowledge of museum practices and technical aspects of exhibition management.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Desirable:
- Qualifications in History of Art, Design, or Museum Studies.
- Awareness of carbon measurement tools.
Terms and Conditions
- Salary: Up to £31,500 per annum, dependent on experience.
- Contract: Fixed-term until 31 December 2025.
- Holidays: 25 days pro rata plus Christmas Eve.
- Hours: 35 hours per week.
- Location: Design Museum Kensington with hybrid working arrangements.
